Interview With An Unsung Hero

Max Petit-Papa, Registrar for UCNH

by Debbie Heneise

Max Petit-Papa graduated from UCNH in 1998 with a degree in business, and has been working for the University as the Registrar since 1994. As students stream into campus this semester to register for classes, it is Max's job to enter their data in the computer banks. It is easier said than done because of electrical outages, computer problems and the volume of work.

I happened upon Max by accident, not knowing who he was. The conversation I had with him was revealing and inspiring. Max said he wants to encourage people who work behind the scenes. He said that even if people don't know you and what you do, that's all right because you know what you're doing is what God's work is for you; an invisible helper is an important part of the work. Max was part of the first graduating class of students from the University. He has a 4- year degree, but in order to get his Bachelors degree he must complete a major project similar to a thesis. He will study the problem of why small businesses fail. He has a wife, Miriane, and two daughters. His wife is the University's nurse in residence.
